SELECTION NO.33 – MIW 161017

SELECTION NO.33 - Blade Runner 2049 (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack / Hans Zimmer & Benjamin Wallfisch) Being such a fan of the original and bring out the 12" whenever I have the chance to absorb the brilliance that it is, means I'm very excited for not only viewing the film but also seeing what the likes of Hans Zimmer & Benjamin Wallfisch have conjured up to match atmospheric expectations. Scorn - Vae Solis Something I was Recently put onto from a Redbull Radio show with 'Regis'. Since hearing in the show about the band I've been quietly obsessed since, and this is my new go to when feeling the need to blow some steam. Broken Flag: A Retrospective 1982 - 1985 Broken Flag presented it's self to me whilst on a late night Discogs binge. Whilst I've heard some of the artists and tracks before, they were always something that I couldn't place or name until recently. Like the other 2 above this, when I have the chance to be alone, this is played at sickening volumes. Not to piss anyone off, but it's very easy to get lost in the sound when you feel them embedded in your head. Black Man's Cry: The inspiration of Fela Kuti I got put onto this in quite a bizarre way. Now, I've always known of Fela Kuti and now a small chunk of the discography. However, I picked up a big haul of cassette tapes of Freecycle which consisted of a lot of African, Latino, Jazz & Hip-Hop. All perfectly recorded with handwritten tracklists. After working my way through the stack, this has not left my deck since. The Neptunes Presents... Clones Since release, my mum has played this to me constantly. Before I could appreciate the sound the Neptunes had carved for themselves, the songs were burned into my head. Older and more educated now I feel myself revisiting this album especially and hearing something different every time. The sound could still have been released this week, the concept is stronger than most and Pharrell still looks the same (almost). Abra - Rose A project which was released way back in 2015, has only just recently come into my life due Ninja Tune giving it a deluxe double LP release. In between the hard industrial noises, I need something to wind down to. After boycotting Frank for the no-show at Primavera I've been searching for a replacement. Rose is perfect for that, with the sass of any 90's girl group and pumped full of 80's & 90's nostalgia. It brings back fond memories of 'Drive' and the hours spent soaking up the soundtrack. I feel this will be in my rotation for a while to come.
